Galileo- The Unexpected man. ( Biography )By ( Bassel Haitham )

Galileo

Galileo di Vincenzo Bonaiuti de Galilei, commonly referred to as Galileo, and as the father of modern science, was an Italian astronomer, physicist, and engineer. He is most famous for improving the telescope and locating Jupiter’s four moons. In August 1609, it was a starry night, Galileo used his improved telescope and pointed it upwards. He saw something no one has ever seen. Mountains on the moon’s surface, new stars and moons circled Jupiter. Yet his discoveries led him into trouble, what he saw convinced him that the Sun is the center of the universe, not the Earth. Galileo was torn and tortured, yet his eyes pointed out a different truth.

On February 15,1564, Galileo was born in Pisa, Italy, during a galvanizing age known as the Renaissance. Europe was exploding with acute ideas and interests in the arts and science. He grew up with his brothers and sisters as the first born. His family moved to Florence by the time he was 8. Michelangelo died at the same time he was born, and Shakespeare was born in the same time he was born too. He sang, played the lute, wrote songs, and taught. Galileo was extremely interested in religion that he became a monk. By the time he was 17, Galileo was ready to enter the university of Pisa.

His father wanted him to get a medical degree so he can be a doctor and earn a lot of money. While studying, Galileo noticed the chandelier swinging, and he observed that the chandelier took the same time to swing back and forth, no matter how far it was swinging. He then tested his theory out and it worked. This called the Pendulum. In 1589, the university of Pisa offered him a job as a mathematician, in this university, he dropped out 4 years earlier since he was a troublemaker. Now, he had returned as a professor. He taught his students his researches, yet he left his job since no one believed him, and then he got hired in the University of Padua, which had a better pay.
